Boon Siew Singapore Pte Ltd has its origins in Penang. Founded by its late Chairman, Tan Sri Loh Boon Siew, the company’s association with Honda motorcycles can be traced all the way back to 1957 when he spotted a Honda motorcycle whilst on holiday in Osaka, Japan. Tan Sri was so impressed with the engineering quality that he went directly to the Honda factory to ask for the dealership in Malaya. With this bold move, Tan Sri Loh Boon Siew became the first Honda distributor in south east Asia. Both Tan Sri Loh Boon Siew and the late Mr. Soichiro Honda were self-made men and shared a close relationship right up till their demise. Today, almost 50 years later, the bond between these two companies is still flourishing.
With the passing of Tan Sri Loh Boon Siew in 1995, Dato’ Loh Cheng Yean has taken over as company chairperson and continues to uphold the Honda quality and brand image expected by customers.
